Sand

Sand provides the ultimate early childhood experience. Babies and toddlers can indulge in sensory explorations while learning the social boundaries of eating and throwing sand. Preschoolers can use their large muscles to build elaborate structures while experimenting with maths and science.

Sandpits that combine sand and water are a fundamental feature of Australian childcare centres. Sand can also be found in nature, at a river or beach.

The educational benefits of sand include sensory awareness.

EYLF learning outcomes

Sand aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework as it is a material (4.4).

Learning experiences

The Interest Forest

The Interest Forest was created by a small team of Australian early childhood teachers. We believe in less paperwork and more play.

We have collected hundreds of children's interests, linked to the EYLF, to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your program. We hope you enjoy exploring our Forest of interest topics.
