Data

Data is information, and children are surrounded by it in every moment of their lives. Early childhood educators can teach children to identify, measure, analyse, compare, classify and sort, and visualise data. This may seem like a big task for young children, but babies and toddlers are doing this already!

Children will be interested in data if they enjoy maths, science and communicating ideas.

Learning experiences

Make a graph to visualise age

Teach children to record data about their world. Firstly, create a bar graph to show how many children in the group are of a certain age. Next, print and cut out a photo of each child, and glue their picture in the column for their age. Finally, count the number of children in each column.

The Interest Forest

The Interest Forest was created by a small team of Australian early childhood teachers. We believe in less paperwork and more play.

We have collected hundreds of children's interests, linked to the EYLF, to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your program. We hope you enjoy exploring our Forest of interest topics.
